Why am I even *at* work right now?

It's Martin Luther King Day and I am at work when I'm supposed to be out in my community doing service and helping people and junk, or showing off my awesome snowboarding skills on the slopes or sitting on my couch in sweatpants eating Cheerios out of the box. I'm pretty sure everywhere else in the country is closed except for the Asian deli on my corner. I didn't even get my mail today. I mean, wtf?

The only logical explanation is that my company is racist. And when I tried explaining this to my mom, she was like I have work too, you know and then I was all SCREW THE MAN. But that example doesn't even count because she works for a hospital and its not like sick people take a vacation from being sick and stuff. Or I guess they do and you could call that death, which is a drag, obviously and anyway, when you put it that way, I'd rather be at work than be dead, geez.

P.S. I don't really think my company is racist.

P.P.S. Please don't fire me.

My gym was open and filled with people taking the day off...reminding me why I don't go to the gym at night when they are normally there.

No holiday for the self employed, unfortunately. But at least I could still take a 'coffee break' and eat Cheerios on my couch. Or go to the gym and think evil things about the woman who was slowing walking on the treadmill next to me and thinking I was odd for actually running.

I'm pretty sure this is the type of blog post that ends up in the news for getting someone fired. I hope for your sake, that it's not the case. I was able to elect the day off. "Are we open on Monday? Yeah, I'm not coming in." I'm not full time, though.

OMG!
You are like my new bff.
I totally agree with you.

My company is opening & I am posting from work! If UPS is picking up, we are open.
Sigh.

Maybe I should just be a pole dancer, I could probably set my own hours. Wonder where there is an opening for a chubby girl with a c-section scar to work a pole?

I'd be working today, too, if I hadn't already taken a vacation day. As it stands, my college didn't observe MLK Day, either.

Well, if that's the case, then my bank is racist...
PS my hubby worked today too, so you're really not that alone.

B's dad never takes a day off. Welcome to the family.

Well, Jessica, when B works for the family biz, he won't ever take a vacation day either. And I will sit on my butt all day eating bon bons.

Ha! I did have today off, but I work for a non-profit, and therefore get paid minimal amounts - so they make up for it in time off and benefits. I'm sorry you had to work today though - that sucks!

As a boss, I hate MLK Day and Columbus Day and Labor Day and all of those other useless holidays. People don't need more days off!

Avitable, I'm must say, I'm thankful to _not_ be employed by you. You're "the boss"? I hope you do more than just "be someone's boss".

Yes, I own and run a company. And I work on those days, so I think it's ridiculous that they're considered holidays.

That's because Avitable is racist, obviously.
